The boats have a helm and 2 crew with a main sail, jib and spinnaker. The Olympic racing course is most commonly used at Championship level racing events and the class gets great levels of turnouts with a minimum of 20-30 boats always competing at the National Championship event.

Notice of Race
- nFnORGANISING AUTHORITY:
1.1 The Organising Authority (OA) is Tralee Bay Sailing Club (TBSC) in conjunction with the Mermaid Sailing Association (MSA).
2.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and the Mermaid Sailing Association Class Rules.
2.2 The prescriptions of Irish Sailing will apply.

3.1 World Sailing Regulation 20 will apply.
- ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY:
4.1 The event is open to boats of the Mermaid Sailing Association whose helm or registered owner is a member of the Mermaid Sailing Association.
4.2 All boats must submit a completed entry form at or prior to registration. This may be downloaded at traleebaysailingclub.ie or completed online.
Entries may be submitted by post to Tralee Bay Sailing Club, Fenit, Co Kerry or at registration. Entry forms and Individual Membership Forms will also be available at the Event Race Office on Thursday 19th August from 2000 and on Friday 20th.
Boats which intend to enter/pay at registration must inform the OA of their intention to enter in advance. Failure to do so may mean that an entry will not be accepted on the day.
4.3 The event entry fee is €80. Entry fees may be paid online or by cheque which should be posted to Tralee Bay Sailing Club, Fenit, Co Kerry, Cheques must be accompanied by a completed entry form. The date of payment shall be regarded as the date of entry.
4.4 Each boat must declare the crew members who will participate in the regatta. Any changes to this list must be approved by the OA and the MSA before the race(s) to which they apply.
5.1 The OA and the MSA may require any entered boat to be weighed and/or measured at any time before or during the event.
5.2 A boat which is not in compliance with the Class measurement rules may not compete in the event.
5.3 A boat which is measured during the event and found not to be in compliance shall be excluded from any remaining races and scored DNE for any completed races.
5.4 Exclusion under 5.2 and 5.3 above shall not be grounds for protest or redress.
- DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY:
6.1 Competitors participate in the event entirely at their own risk see RRS 4 Decision to Race. The Organising Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the event. TBSC, including its officers, employees and agents, the race management team, the support boats and anyone helping to run the event shall not be liable for any loss, damage, death or personal injury however caused to the owner/competitor or crew as a result of their taking part in the event.
7.1 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of €3,000,000 per incident.
- 8. SCHEDULE:
8.1 It is proposed to sail seven races.
8.2 The Event Briefing will take place Friday 21st at 12 noon.
8.3 Proposed Schedule of Races:
Friday 21st 2 races FG 1400
Saturday 22nd 3 races FG 1200
Sunday 23rd 2 races FG 1100
No Race will start after 1500 on the Sunrday
8.4 No more than 6 races may be completed by close of racing on Saturday 22nd.
- SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:
9.1 The Sailing Instructions will be available from the Event Office at registration. Prior to this they may be available at www.traleebaysailingclub.ie or www.dublinbaymermaids.com.
- THE COURSES:
10.1 The courses to be sailed will be as listed in the Sailing Instructions.
11.1 The venue will be Tralee Bay Sailing Club.
11.2 Club facilities include free power & water on site, shower and changing facilities, secure trailer storage during the event.
11.3 Free camping and caravan parking available on site. Full accommodation list available on www.traleebaysailingclub.ie.
11.4 Marina berths or dry storage will be provided for all boats for the duration of the event. Boats may be required to raft up on the marina.
111.5 The OA will provide launch/recovery facilities on Friday morning and Sunday afternoon, Launch or recovery outside of these time shall be at competitor’s own responsibility.
12.1 A championship barbeque will take place at Tralee Bay Sailing Club at 1930 hrs on the Saturday evening. Pre-booking essential.
12.2 Live music or other entertainment may be provided at the club every evening.
13.1 The Low Points Scoring System of Appendix A shall apply except that the score for first place shall be 0.75.
13.2 Three races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
13.3 When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
13.4 One discard will apply after 5 races.
14.1 Prizes will be awarded to the first three boats overall.
14.2 Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the Organising Authority.
